The scientific name of poppy seeds is Papaver somniferum. It is an oilseed obtained from the opium poppy which is an annual herbaceous plant in the Papaveraceae family. It is originated in the southeastern Europe and western Asia. Nowadays, it is widely cultivated in North Africa, China, Asia and Europe for their seeds.
