It is a very common condition in all ages but mostly people who are above fifty have bigger chances to get dry eyes. It happens when your tears cannot provide adequate lubrication for your eyes. This condition is uncomfortable because it can interrupt in your everyday activities. Also it is a painful condition. Many factors can cause you dry eyes such as lifestyle, environmental and medical factors. If you notice that you have dry eyes, then you should talk with your doctor as soon as possible. You need to be sure that there is not an underlying condition which is a reason for dry eyes. You should make some changes in your lifestyle and try some home remedies to get a relief from the symptoms of dry eyes. You should consult with your doctor before you start using some home remedy.
Home remedies to cure dry eyes
Chamomile: It is one of the best home remedies which you can use if you suffer from dry eyes because this herb has anti – inflammatory and cooling properties . It can help to restore the moisture and also it can soothe your tired eyes. If you had a long and hard day and you want to rest, then you should drink a chamomile tea. It can prepare you for rest and also it will make you sleepy which is a perfect way for all people who want to sleep well. Also there are other home remedies which can help you to fight against the dry eyes such as calendula, fennel, thyme and marigold. But as we have said before you must talk with your doctor before you start using some home remedy.
Lavender oil: In one cup of water you should put a few drops of lavender oil. You should dip a washcloth in this mixture and then you should apply this remedy on your eyes. This is also very effective home remedy for dry eyes because it can provide you smoothing effects on your eyes. 
Grapes: There are some studies which are done in University of Miami that says you should add grapes in your diet. This can help you to reduce the chances of getting retinal diseases and also it will keep the health of your eyes. 
Warm water: You will need to soak a towel in warm water. You should remove the excess water from the towel. Then, you should cover your face with this towel from fifteen to twenty minutes. The moisture in your eyes will be kept with this treatment.
Castor oil: It acts as a water retainer which means that it is a very effective natural remedy for dry eyes. You should put a single drop of castor oil in your eyes. When you have meibomian gland dysfunction, then this oil can help you a lot which is shown in many studies. 
Blinking exercise: Maximum moisture should be supplied to your eyes because this will help you to reduce the strain of your eyes. When you are constantly blinking, then you are achieving this effect. When you are blinking your eyes will be moistened and also the tears will be in the side of your eyes.
Dry eyes home remedy
Lubrication: When we are sleeping our eyes tend to dry out. We should avoid this problem. Before we go to the bed, we should apply a lubricant. When we are sleeping, then this lubricant will supply moisture to our eyes. You should use a washcloth dipped in water because in this way you will provide moisture to your eyes. Also you should not wash your eyes too much because this can wash out your tears. When you are working you should take brakes and also you should close them because they need to rest properly.
Hydration: One of the biggest causes for dry eyes is the dehydration. We know that we consume enough amount of water, and then water is acting like a back – up for all metabolic activities which are in our bodies. People who suffer from dry eyes should drink at least eight to ten glasses of water per day. When you drink enough amount of water throughout the day, then you will have faster recovery of this condition.
Apply a warm washcloth to your eyes: You will need to wet a clean cloth with warm water. Then, you should put the cloth over your eyes in a period of five minutes. When you have noticed that the cloth is cool, then you should wet the cloth again with hot water. With the washcloth you should rub your eyelids on gentle way. Also the base of your eyelashes should be included when you are rubbing your eyelids. This can help you to lose any debris that you have. 
Mint: When our eyes are stinging or itching, then we usually are rubbing them. But we should try to resolve this problem with spearmint eyewash. In some amount of water you should put ten to twelve spearmint leaves and then you should boil them. You should wait at least twenty minutes until this remedy cools. Then, you should take clean face cotton. Apply this mixture to your eyes. In mint there is active ingredient which is known as menthol. This ingredient will stimulate the production of your tears. This means that your eyes will be refreshed and energized. Also this herb has beautiful taste which makes it one of the best natural cures for dry eyes. 
Warm compress: When we suffer from dry eyes, then our meibomian glands are closed. If we want to open the clogged meibomian glands, then we should add warm compress to out closed eyelids which can help to soften the hardened meibum. There are some studies in which is shown that you should use warm compress which has 108 degrees Fahrenheit. You should not let it stay there for more than ten minutes. You should apply the warm compress two times per day. You should let it stay two times per day for ten minutes and to be on the previous mentioned temperature. But in many cases people are not doing this treatment right. They make it shorter than ten minutes or they do not use warm compress which has 108 degrees Fahrenheit which means that this is not an effective treatment. 
Humidifiers: We know that if we suffer from dry eyes, then we should keep the surrounding of our eyes moist. Air cleaners or indoor humidifiers can help us to keep our eyes moisturized. This will help you to avoid the dry air and also people who suffer from dry eyes will have adequate moisture for their eyes.
Drops that reduce redness: If you suffer from dry eyes, then you should not use drops that reduce redness because these kinds of drops can cause you irritation which means that your condition will get worse.
Aloe Vera: This is also effective natural remedy which you can use if you suffer from dry eyes. You should apply the viscous liquid inside of the leaf or the gel from Aloe Vera on your eyelids. If you are using this treatment regularly, then it can help you to reduce the symptoms of the dry eyes. But you should not put the gel of Aloe Vera leaf directly on your eyes surface because this treatment can worsen the symptoms of dry eyes. 
Proper nutrition: If you do not have enough amounts of fatty acids in your body, then this can lead to dry eyes. The essential fatty acids which you should add in your diet are omega – 3 fatty acids and omega – 6 fatty acids. They can help you not to get the dry eye syndrome. You should consume fish oil because it is rich with essential fatty acids and nutrients that can help you to have healthy eyes. Also you can found the mentioned fatty acids in whole grains, sesame, almonds, grape seeds, walnuts and dried grains and fruits. When you have normal and proper diet, then it can help you to rid of this or another disease.
Apply oil: You should apply oil on your head and on the sole of your feet every night before you go to the bed. This is according to the Ayurvedic medicine in which is believed that this treatment will make a wind dysfunction or it counters the vata dosha.
Cold milk or rose water: You should dip a piece of cotton either in cold milk or rose water and then you should apply this remedy on your eyes when they are closed. You should let this cotton to stay on your eyes in a period of ten minutes. This treatment will help to your eyes to be relaxed because it can reduce the strain of your eyes.
Bilberry: Some people have heard bilberry while others have not heard it before. This herb is related to blueberry. This is one of the best natural cures if you suffer from macular degeneration which is a retinal disease and also it can keep the overall eye health. If you suffer from itchy eyes or dry eyes, then the bilberry is the perfect natural remedy. Extracts from this fruit will help you to improve the tear gland function, oxygen supply and blood circulation. This fruit has citrin and Vitamin P which can help you to decrease the inflammation and swelling in your body which in many cases can trigger the dry eyes.
