It is a very common condition in all ages, but mostly people who are above fifty have bigger chances to get dry eyes. It happens when your tears cannot provide adequate lubrication for your eyes. This condition is uncomfortable because it can interrupt in your everyday activities. Also, it is a painful condition. Many factors can cause you dry eyes such as lifestyle, environmental and medical factors. If you notice that you have dry eyes, then you should talk with your doctor as soon as possible. You need to be sure that there is not an underlying condition which is a reason for dry eyes. Chamomile

It is one of the best home remedies which you can use if you suffer from dry eyes because this herb has anti-inflammatory and cooling properties [1]. It can help to restore moisture, and also it can soothe your tired eyes. If you had a long and hard day and you want to rest, then you should drink chamomile tea. It can prepare you for rest and also it will make you sleepy which is a perfect way for all people who want to sleep well. Also, there are other home remedies which can help you to fight against the dry eyes such as calendula, fennel, thyme, and marigold. But as we have said before you must talk with your doctor before you start using some home remedies.

Lavender oil

In one cup of water you should put a few drops of lavender oil. You should dip a washcloth in this mixture, and then you should apply this remedy on your eyes. This is also a very effective home remedy for dry eyes because it can provide you smoothing effects on your eyes. [2]

Lubrication

When we are sleeping our eyes tend to dry out. We should avoid this problem. Before we go to bed, we should apply a lubricant. When we are sleeping, then this lubricant will supply moisture to our eyes. You should use a washcloth dipped in water because in this way you will provide moisture to your eyes. Also, you should not wash your eyes too much because this can wash out your tears. When you are working you should take brakes and also you should close them because they need to rest properly.

Hydration

One of the biggest causes for dry eyes is dehydration. We know that we consume enough amount of water, and then water is acting like a back – up for all metabolic activities which are in our bodies. People who suffer from dry eyes should drink at least eight to ten glasses of water per day. When you drink enough amount of water throughout the day, then you will have faster recovery of this condition.

Apply a warm washcloth to your eyes

You will need to wet a clean cloth with warm water. Then, you should put the cloth over your eyes for a period of five minutes. When you have noticed that the cloth is cool, then you should wet the cloth again with hot water. With the washcloth you should rub your eyelids on a gentle way. When we suffer from dry eyes, then our meibomian glands are closed. If we want to open the clogged meibomian glands, then we should add a warm compress to out closed eyelids which can help to soften the hardened meibum. There are some studies in which is shown that you should use warm compress which has 108 degrees Fahrenheit. You should not let it stay there for more than ten minutes. You should apply the warm compress two times per day. You should let it stay two times per day for ten minutes and to be on the previous mentioned temperature. But in many cases, people are not doing this treatment right. They make it shorter than ten minutes, or they do not use warm compress which has 108 degrees Fahrenheit which means that this is not an effective treatment. [5]

We know that if we suffer from dry eyes, then we should keep the surrounding of our eyes moist. Air cleaners or indoor humidifiers can help us to keep our eyes moisturized. This will help you to avoid dry air, and also, people who suffer from dry eyes will have adequate moisture for their eyes.

Drops that reduce redness

If you suffer from dry eyes, then you should not use drops that reduce redness because these kinds of drops can cause you irritation which means that your condition will get worse.

Aloe Vera

This is also an effective natural remedy that you can use if you suffer from dry eyes. You should apply the viscous liquid inside of the leaf or the gel from Aloe Vera on your eyelids. If you are using this treatment regularly, then it can help you to reduce the symptoms of dry eyes.
