Blepharitis natural treatments – coconut oil and castor oil

Blepharitis is an uncomfortable condition which is affecting your eyes. But there are home remedies and natural cures which can help you to cure this condition. When you are suffering from inflammation of your eyelids, then this is a condition which is known as blepharitis. This condition is happening because there is an infection which is resulting in malfunctioning of your oil glands which are located at the base of eyelids. There are many symptoms which are associated with blepharitis such as crusting of your eyelashes, itchy eyelids, a burning sensation in your eyes, red eyes, water eyes, light sensitivity, greasiness in your eyelids and gritty sensation in your eyes. You should not use caffeine and alcohol if you are suffering from a blepharitis. Also you should avoid dairy products such as butter, milk, cheese and yogurt. You should eat more vegetables. Green leafy vegetables are recommended if you are suffering from blepharitis. Also you should add ginger, onions and garlic in your diet. You should avoid eating bananas. Coconut oil: This is one of the best home remedies which you can use if you are suffering from a blepharitis. It will help you to reduce the irritation and pain in your eyes. Coconut oil has many nutrients such as fats which are helping you reduce the inflammation and to restore the eye health [1]. You will need to soak a cotton swab in the coconut oil. Then, you should put this cotton swab on your eyelids where you have an inflammation. You should let this oil to stay on your eyelids. Maximum time which is allowed is 20 minutes. You should apply this home remedy two or three times per day because it will help you to prevent the coming back of the blepharitis symptoms.

Black currant oil: This is one of the best home remedies which you can use if you are suffering from a blepharitis. You can take supplements of black currant oil together with your diet. Also this kind of oil will help you to moisture the skin and hair. The recommended daily intake amount of black currant oil is 5000 milligrams 2 times per day. But for the right dose you should consult with your doctor. He or she will tell you if this remedy will help you to improve your condition. It is recommended using it from 6 – 8 weeks. In this period it will help you to reduce half of the symptoms which you are having when you are suffering from a blepharitis. [2]

With a soft swab or cotton ball you should apply the castor oil on your eyelids and eyelashes. Also when you have itching and inflammation which are associated with blepharitis you can use tea tree oil. You should need to dilute this home remedy before you can use it. You will need to dilute a couple of drops of vegetable oil with couple of drops with tea tree oil. You should soak a cotton swab in this mixture. Then, you should apply it on your eyelids. Let it stay for fifteen minutes. Maybe, this home remedy will make stinging of your eyes, but it will help you to reduce the swelling, irritation and itching.

Baby shampoo: People who are suffering from a blepharitis should use baby shampoo as their natural remedy. When they are applying baby shampoo on their eyelids, then it can help them to reduce the inflammation caused by this disease. You can use concentrated or diluted shampoo. Both forms will work in the same way and will help you against the blepharitis. In boiling water you should add a drop of baby shampoo. You should let this mixture to steep for thirty minutes. You will need a clean cotton ball. Soak this cotton ball in the hot mixture. Then, you should rub this cotton ball against the eyelids (it means that you should rub this remedy at the base of your eyelashes). This will help you to reduce the inflammation and also you will rid of the crust.

Petroleum Jelly: There are some cases when people are suffering from a blepharitis which is caused by lice in their eyelashes, hair and eyebrows. Petroleum jelly is a very effective natural treatment when you are suffering from a blepharitis caused by lice. You should apply some petroleum jelly on your eyelashes because it will kill the lice. Then, you should wash your face with lukewarm water because it will help you to wash away the dead lice. This kind of home remedy can be used with other home remedies (in a combination, for example, the home remedies which we have mentioned previously). When your blepharitis is caused by lice, then you should use petroleum jelly at least once per day because it will help you to treat this disease in proper way. Hot showers: When you are suffering from a blepharitis, then you should stay in hot shower because it will help you against this condition. When you are suffering from blepharitis, then you should stay in the hot shower with your face turned upwards and your eyes closed. When you are doing this method, then you are riding of the crust which is formed on your eyelashes because water is melting down and it is washing it off from your eyelashes. Also when you have blepharitis you are feeling inflammation which is caused by this disease. When you are taking a hot shower, then the inflammation which is caused by this disease is reduced. When you are done with the hot shower, you can apply a warm towel above the inflamed eyelids because it will help you to reduce the swelling and itching or burning sensation in your eyes.

Frequent cleansing: When people are suffering from a blepharitis should clean their eyes on regular base, several times per day because in this way they will prevent the formation of crust in their eyelids [7]. You should use a warm towel to rub the inflamed area in gentle way. This is the best way which you can use for cleaning of your eyes. When you are using this method, then you are removing the crust which is formed on your eyelashes. Also there is another option which you can use if you want to clean the inner layers of your eyelids. Pull back the eyelids in gentle way. Then, you should apply a warm towel on the affected areas for twenty minutes to get relief from blepharitis.
