Tarragon essential oil has many health benefits that can be attributed to its properties as vermifuge, stimulant, emenagogue, deodorant, digestive, circulatory, aperitif and anti – rheumatic substance. The medicinal uses of the tarragon essential oil were known for ling period and also this herb has been used in cooking for generations. The common name that is used for Tarragon is Little Dragon. The botanical name of Tarragon is Artemisia Dracunculus and Dracunculus means Little Dragon. The exact reason for this name is not known. Tarragon essential oil is extracted by steam distillation of its flowering tops and leaves. Phellandrene, ocimene, estragole and cineol are the main components of tarragon essential oil. Tarragon essential oil blends well with rosewood, lime, lavender and carrot seed oils. This essential oil has estragole which is making it poisonous. Estragole is another name for methyl chavicol.
