Lycopene has many health benefits which can help to prevent deadly diseases and conditions, such as macular degeneration and cancer. Many people do not know that they should add lycopene in their diets. This is a fat soluble nutrient. Lycopene can prevent the damage to DNA. Lycopene is antioxidant which means that it will neutralize the effects of harmful free radicals by oxidizing itself. This is a carotenoid which means that organic pigments can be converted to Vitamin A. It is a phytonutrient which means that the organic nutrients that are present in this plant have anti – inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Our body cannot produce lycopene so it is very important to consume foods that have it. There are many vitamin supplements which incorporate the lycopene in the recommended dosages but you should include lycopene in your daily diet through your diet by adding all foods present in the red spectrum. The foods which are rich in lycopene are pink grapefruit, papaya, watermelon, pink guava and tomato. There are some cases when lycopene could lead to side effects, such as vomiting, nausea, gas, dyspepsia and diarrhea but the occurrence of these side effects is very rare. Heart disease is cause for many deaths. This condition is often linked to the presence of too much cholesterol in the body. When you take lycopene rich food, then this will prevent the oxidation of LDL cholesterol and it can prevent from clogging the arteries.
