Pluots have many health benefits, such as speed up the recovery process of your body, prevent diabetes, prevent certain cancers, boost your vision and increase your overall fluid intake. You may never hear about pluots before but it is very beneficial fruit. It is a hybrid which comes from two fruits – plums and apricots. Pluots are also known as plumcots and apriums, depending on the vendor you are purchasing from or the farm on which they are grown.

Pluots tend to show more plum characteristics than apricot characteristics which is based on the method of hybridization. Both fruits are members of the Prunus species but pluots do not have specific name. Floyd Zaiger created pluots and he spent years experimenting with plums and apricots before he finally made this hybrid. The very first pluot was sold in 1989.

This hybrid has a sweet flavor and texture of a plum but their exterior is fuzzy and soft like that of apricot. Pluots have sugar content which is higher than in most other fruits so if you want to maintain proper sugar levels in your diet, then you should avoid eating too many pluots. The diabetic control of fiber will be outweighed by the high levels of sugars which you put into your blood stream.
