Sapota fruit is known as “sapeta” in Bengali, “cappotta” in Tamil, “chikku” in Marathi, “sapota” in Telugu, “chikoo” or “chiku” in Hindi. Sapota is tropical evergreen tea which bears this fruit. This is a delicious calorie – rich fruit which belongs to the category of fruits like jack fruit, banana and mango. This fruit has its origin in the rain forests of Central America, especially in Belize and Mexico, but also it is available in India.

Sapota fruit has round or oval – shaped berry measuring around 10 cm in diameter and weighing 150 grams. It has two to five big, black and shiny beans – like the seeds in the centre.
